Evidence-Based Talk Therapy

Psychotherapy & Counselling

Evidence-based talk therapies delivered by senior clinical psychologists — in-person at our Kalamassery campus or online.

Structured Therapy Grounded in Scientific Protocols

Therapy works. Decades of clinical research show that structured, evidence-based psychotherapy is as effective as medication for many conditions — and more effective long-term, because it builds skills that medication doesn't. But not all therapy is the same. The 'general counselling' offered at many centers is often unstructured supportive listening, not the specific clinical protocols that evidence supports.

At MetroMind, our clinical psychology team delivers structured, evidence-based protocols — Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and family systems therapy. Each is matched to specific conditions based on what the research supports.

Therapy here is integrated with medical care when needed. Many patients see both a psychiatrist and a psychologist as part of one coordinated plan — but therapy alone is also a complete pathway for many conditions.

Modality Grid

Depression

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and behavioral activation are first-line. Effective both as standalone and alongside medication.

Anxiety and panic

CBT and exposure-based protocols. For chronic anxiety, mindfulness-based approaches and ACT add additional benefit.

OCD

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) — a specialized CBT protocol — is the most effective non-medication treatment for OCD.

Trauma and PTSD

EMDR and trauma-focused CBT are utilized for safe, structured trauma processing by trained clinical psychologists.

Relationship and family issues

Structured family therapy, couples therapy, and parent-training protocols for behavioral concerns in children.

Emotional regulation & personality

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is the gold-standard treatment for emotional dysregulation and borderline patterns.

Stress, burnout, & transitions

Structured counselling to build practical coping skills for working professionals navigating transitions.

Our Structured Therapy Approach

We guide you through a measurable progression focused on skill-building and recovery.

1

Assessment & Goal-Setting

First 1–2 sessions focus on history, current concerns, and setting concrete recovery goals using validated baseline scales.

2

Protocol Selection

Based on presentation, we recommend the therapeutic approach with the strongest evidence base: CBT, DBT, EMDR, or family therapy.

3

Active Treatment Phase

Typically 12–20 sessions structured around specific skills, coping strategies, and homework practice between sessions.

4

Progress Measurement

Validated scales are re-administered at structured intervals to measure progress objectively rather than subjectively.

5

Maintenance & Prevention

As symptoms remit, sessions taper. Final sessions focus on relapse prevention and skill consolidation to ensure gains hold.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is therapy at MetroMind different from general counselling?

General counselling is often unstructured supportive listening. Therapy at MetroMind follows specific evidence-based protocols (CBT, DBT, EMDR, ERP) with clear structure, defined goals, and measured progress.

Do I need medication along with therapy?

Not necessarily. Many conditions respond fully to therapy alone — particularly mild-to-moderate depression, anxiety, and trauma. For severe presentations, combining therapy with medication often produces the best outcomes.

How many therapy sessions will I need?

Most evidence-based protocols run 12–20 sessions. Some shorter protocols can be completed in 6–10 sessions, while complex trauma or personality concerns may require longer engagement.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

For most conditions, yes. Clinical research shows that structured therapy delivered by video produces outcomes comparable to in-person sessions — particularly for CBT, anxiety, and depression.

What if I don't 'click' with my therapist?

Therapeutic alliance matters significantly. If you don't feel the connection is working after 2–3 sessions, we will reassign you to another therapist on our team — no awkwardness.

Is what I share in therapy confidential?

Yes. Clinical confidentiality is strict and legally protected. The only exceptions are situations involving immediate risk to your life or others, or where required by court order.
